Schools, like any business, get judged using standard business metrics. So, if you were thinking of buying a charter school, you would have looked at its test scores (which are very important to parents) and its graduation rate (which is important to the business community). You would also, as a minimum, have calculated the percentage of students classified as low-income, a measure that determines how the district or the state spends its money. (In Newark’s case, the district spends 60 percent of its money on the city’s most needy students.)
This is probably the most despicable of any of these Easter Eggs. At first glance, it may even seem like a subtle joke, and I am sure many find it amusing. But I had never considered the complications that would happen to the children, and I'm not exaggerating. I'm talking about the children that were killed by the gas because the thought of their mother, who was completely unaware of what was going to happen to them, had to have been absolutely horrifying. I don't know how common this was, but it's something that I cannot imagine any human being doing. At least not any sane one.
The IDE is a rich toolkit with features and functionality that is very convenient to develop in. But some of it is optional, and some (notably the autocompletion) is not used by every developer. So in my view the IDE is useful, but not essential.
If the IDE were just the IDE, and if it had 100% of the features of a free IDE, then Borland should simply provide a free IDE. If the rest of the software were free, then the IDE is not a competitive advantage. But it does provide some advantages. That is why I think that Borland should offer a free IDE with a free compiler, or an affordable IDE with a free compiler.
Whether the IDE should be free or not is another question. I think that the IDE is not really a competitive advantage for Borland anymore, and the extra investment for a free IDE is not justified by the market. 827ec27edc
